Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) certainly seemed to reach an impasse in the Season 10 finale of Grey's Anatomy — regarding his plan for them to move to D.C. — but does their conflict spell the end of their marriage? Grey's boss Shonda Rhimes is weighing in.

"I don't think that it's a marriage-ending argument," Shonda tells Entertainment Weekly. She notes that TV couples often break up when the going gets tough, and she wants to see one soldier on.

"I actually would like to watch a couple have a hard time in their marriage… and have it not be that that means their marriage is over," Shonda continues. "There's something really great about watching a couple have a mature marriage where stuff goes wrong, things are hard, and people try to push through it and figure it out."

The 44-year-old producer also reveals that the O.G. Grey's couple will still be at odds when Season 11 premieres.

Our thought? Even though Shonda doesn't say definitively that their marriage will survive, we're betting on them moving forward together — especially because she told us years ago that they're "together for good."

Then again, though they'll likely stay together, that's not to say they'll necessarily stay together in Seattle
