Being a star on a network TV show like Grey's Anatomy leaves little time for extracurriculars, but James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber) — who turns 60 today, October 26, 2014! — remains very committed to another passion of his and it’s a rather uncommon hobby.

So do you know how he spends his free time? We recently asked Viggle LIVE! users to name his speciality, and 45 percent of you hit the answer on the head — James participates in team roping, a rodeo event in which two horseback riders collaborate to rope a steer.

"It's been a lot of fun. It's a great escape from the craziness that is Hollywood," James tells Spin to Win Rodeo Magazine. "It's been a nice therapy for me, even if I'm not roping, to get out on the trail with your horse and get away from the madness. It's had a real therapeutic effect on my life."

James even hosts an annual roping event to benefit his youth-focused charity, the James Pickens Jr. Foundation. "I see that these cowboys have a heart for children and want to see the best for them," he tells the magazine. "Kids have taken a low rung on the priority list now, and so we just want to bring some attention to that and try to make a better life for these kids."

Sounds like great fun! Here's wishing him a happy birthday and many more horseback rides.
