Before the traumatic Grey's Anatomy Season 8 finale (Season 8, Episode 24, "Flight"), show creator Shonda Rhimes had teased that Mark (Eric Dane) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) would have a bittersweet moment in their relationship. Now, Eric has chimed in on what exactly that moment meant for his character in the long run.
In an interview with E!, Eric first said that he wasn’t really that surprised that Lexie died in the finale. “I wasn’t [shocked] because I knew that Chyler wanted to spend more time with her family … we’re going to miss her.”
He went on to say that Lexie was Mark’s one true love: “I think so, I think that’s how it ended up.” Watch Eric, Kim Raver (Teddy Altman), and Sarah Drew (April Kepner) chat about their own personal reactions to Lexie’s death in the clip below.
Miss Grey’s? Us too. Luckily the show will return to Thursdays at 9 p.m. with all-new episodes in the fall on ABC.
