Being the new girl on TV’s hottest hospital drama has got to be nerve wracking, but Andrea Savopolos (Nina Lasko) is taking it all in her stride.
Wetpaint Entertainment had an exclusive chat with the Grey's Anatomy actress about how she’s settling in with the seasoned cast, and what we can expect from her character, intern Nina.
Wetpaint Entertainment: What has been the best thing about being on Grey's so far?
Andrea Savopolos: The people. The cast and crew of Grey's Anatomy are awesome to work with and to be around. They are all just really fantastic people.
Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang) was sweet, funny, and totally engaged, and Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) (who directed my episode, Season 8, Episode 3:“Take the Lead”) was such an actor's director, so attentive, considerate, and specific. I really enjoyed the experience.
Can you describe your character?
My character, Intern Nina Lasko, is new at Seattle Grace-Mercy West and she is a perfectionist. She wants to get everything right the first time that she does it. Unfortunately she has made some slip-ups and accidentally caused some difficulties for her patients.
She is also having a hard time coping with not being at the top of my class because she wants to impress the residents, especially Cristina, who she sees as having mastered the abilities she wishes she has
What is the most fun thing about playing her?
Playing Intern Nina is a lot of fun because she's so flustered and intense about things that everything is so heartfelt. She is in it to win it, always aiming to be flawless, even though she's full of imperfections.
Which cast member has been most helpful to you as a newcomer?
I'd have to say Chandra has been the most helpful to me as a newcomer on set as she was my director in my first episode. She was very nurturing and helpful as a director.
