Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) and Patrick Dempsey's (Derek Shepherd) post-Grey's Anatomy Season 8 contracts are still up in the air. What does that mean for Seattle Grace's McDreamiest couple? Something good, actually.

Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes recently told TV Guide that she's prepared if (horror of horrors) Patrick and Ellen don't come back after Season 8.

"I have a plan in place for the finale that can occur regardless of who is staying," Shonda said. "Our goal is to have Derek and Meredith move in to the completed dream house."

Yes, you read that right: MerDer could finally move into that legendary dream house by the end of the season!

Of course, Shonda calls that particular plot point a "goal," which sounds like it's not 100 percent set in stone. Still, it's nice to know that the house is still in the picture. Let's just hope Derek fixes that front porch...

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
