Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) has had one tough season this year on Grey’s Anatomy. Not only did she lose her best friend (and the father of her baby, Sofia), Mark, in the plane crash, but her wife lost her leg, too, which took a pretty serious toll on Callie — and her love life. At least creator Shonda Rhimes has promised to be good to Callie in the Season 9 finale!
We hope better days are ahead for her. Here are our favorite Callie moments from this season:
Callie is recognized in the hospital. We loved the scene when Callie and Richard went rogue on their road trip to another Pegasus hospital to find out how they ran things. But were extra impressed when one of the doctors recognized Callie for all her work as an orthopedic surgeon. We totally think she deserved the credit.
Callie’s TED talk. TED conferences are a pretty big deal, so the fact that Callie was invited to speak was a pretty big deal, too. And even though she missed the actual conference, we loved the way Richard and Arizona arranged for her to speak via webcam — especially since it made her speech even better.
Callie’s patience with Arizona. Even though she wasn’t in the plane crash herself, it still totally shook up Callie’s world. Not only did Callie have to mourn the loss of Mark, but she also had to help Arizona adjust to life without her leg – a task made even more difficult by the fact that Arizona did not want her help. But even when Arizona was hard to deal with (and sometimes downright mean) Callie stuck by her no matter what.
Callie bonds with her aspiring journalist patient. When Callie’s teenage patient showed up in the ER missing fingers after a family game of tug of war gone wrong, she begged and pleaded to keep her fingers — if she lost them, she would lose her future journalism career, too. Thankfully, Callie was able to save her hand, and the story had a bonus happy ending when Callie brought the press release about the CDC visit to her patient so she could get the scoop on it early.
Callie tries to help Bailey after the investigation. After the CDC questioned Bailey, it really threw her off her game, even after they determined the Staph infection outbreak wasn’t her fault. Bailey spent her days afterward holed up in a lab, refusing to speak to anyone. And when everyone else believed Bailey was a lost cause, Callie didn’t give up. Even though ultimately it was Ben who got Bailey to talk, we think it was so sweet of her to try so hard to help her.
