Now that we have the premiere date for Grey's Anatomy Season 9, and we know the cast is hard at work on the first two episodes of the season, we think it’s time to review the newest additions to the cast — and the roles that still need to be filled.

As a refresher, here are the casting notices we know of:

Dr. Parker: “a top-of-his-game physician in his 40s or 50s”
Dr. Mel Barnett: “slightly younger” doctor
Male medical professional: “smart,” “not Hollywood handsome”
Female medical professional: “smart,” not Hollywood pretty”
Female patient: “girl-next-door pretty”

And these are the actors who have confirmed roles in Season 9:

Camilla Luddington will be playing a “young doctor” on the show, reportedly in a recurring role with the potential to become a regular. That rules her out for the role of the “girl-next-door-pretty” patient showrunner Shonda Rhimes is currently looking to cast. We have a feeling Camilla will play the “smart” female medical professional.

Gaius Charles is said to have a recurring role, though the details of his part are unknown. Could he be playing Dr. Mel Barnett, the young doctor? Or will Gaius play someone we haven’t heard about yet, perhaps a patient who appears in a multi-episode arc?

That leaves at least three major roles up for grabs. But given Shonda’s tweet that work on Season 9, Episode 2 has already begun today (July 26), we should be hearing updates soon enough!

Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 will premiere on Thursday, September 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
