Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) briefly found a way to make their relationship work on Grey's Anatomy Season 9, but it required a whole heap of denial. Now that Owen's attachment to Ethan has stirred up the kids question again, can the relationship survive? Showrunner Shonda Rhimes recently weighed in.

"I don't know what compromise you make when one person wants kids and one doesn't," Shonda admitted to TV Guide.
We've said the same in the past. Either Owen and Cristina have to to break up (sad), Cristina has to have kids she doesn't want (sad), or Owen has to give up the family he dreams of (sad). There doesn't seem to be a solution to this problem that won't make us unhappy.
So, does Shonda see a magical way out? It sounds like the answer might be "not really," but there are a ton of different ways it could go badly.
"Cristina could make the horrible mistake of deciding she's going to have a kid for him. Cristina could make the horrible mistake that she's just going to walk away from him. He could make the horrible mistake of saying that he's going to walk away from her or have a kid on his own."
That sounds like a whole lot of "horrible mistakes," and not many happy endings. But before Cristina/Owen shipper give up total hope, Shonda also had this to say: "This journey is going to be interesting because I do think no matter what that they truly love each other."
