Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) may fit together perfectly in many ways, but their relationship — whether it's a marriage or something else — has a major long-term obstacle: He wants kids and she doesn't.
As we've noted before, that leaves us, the viewers, between a rock and a hard place. We want Owen and Cristina to get their happily ever after, but we don't want it to be at the expense of Cristina's beliefs.
Fortunately, based on a new interview with TVLine, it sounds like showrunner Shonda Rhimes feels the same way.

"I feel really strongly that we allow [Cristina] to be who she is, this woman that does not want children," Shonda told TVLine. "She’s a surgeon and a scientist first before she is anything else, and Owen has to deal with the fact that he is in love with somebody who has a genius, versus being in love with somebody who wants to have a family."
Shonda added that while right now she's enjoying watching the couple have fun without thinking about what their differences on this issue mean for the future, it won't be like that forever.
"They’re going to have to really talk talk about it and figure it out and struggle to figure out if they can be in love despite the fact that he wants kids and she doesn’t."
What do you think: Should Owen and Cristina have a kid in the end, or should Cristina stick to her guns?
