We're still deciding how we feel about the influx of new interns on Grey's Anatomy Season 9, but one thing's for sure: Camilla Luddington (Jo) is delightful in real life. In a set of recent interviews, she opened up about what it's like on set, and shared some Grey's Anatomy behind-the-scene secrets.
In a hilarious video interview with Young Hollywood, Camilla explained the special training the new cast got in preparation for their roles as doctors.
"The first week of work they sent us to see a real operation," she said. "Open heart surgery. And that was crazy. Disgusting, awful — and it was five hours!"
And this wasn't some wimpy, watching-from-the-sidelines situation: According to Camilla, they stood right over the patient, looking into his chest. That's some intense training!
Camilla also shared a trade secret: When a patient "gives birth" on the show, they simulate a newborn by covering a doll in "cream cheese and jelly." Who knew!
Camilla also spoke to The Examiner, and dished that while Jo may not have totally warmed to Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) yet, Camilla is a big fan of the grumpy doc. "I want to shake her and say, 'He is so nice and wonderful.'"
Those of you who are Jo fans should be please to know we'll also see the newbie working with "other doctors" this season.
