Grey's Anatomy Season 8 ended with most characters' fates up in the air. However, one doc who we know is safe, sound, and planning on staying at Seattle Grace-Mercy West is Owen (Kevin McKidd). But that doesn't mean we're not interested in thinking about what will happen to Seattle Grace-Mercy West's newest Chief.

So here are some things we're hoping to see from Owen during Season 9.

More Owen/Cristina … but slowly: Kevin McKidd thinks Owen and Cristina (Sandra Oh) are destined to reunite, and we're inclined to agree that the show is headed that route. However, so much of Season 8 focused on the destruction of their marriage that we'd hate to see it all patched up quickly. We hope Owen and Cristina do spend some time apart before inevitable winding up back in each others' arms. And if/when they do get back together, we hope they don't gloss over the issues still inherent in their relationships.

Owen dealing with disaster: It's what he's good at. We really hope we'll get to see Owen in his element more next season. Most notably, if the premiere picks up right where the finale lets off, we hope Owen's skills will be put to good use trying to rescue the docs in the crash.

More Owen and Derek: Owen and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) started a bit of a bromance at the beginning of Season 8, but the Owen/Cristina drama ended up interrupting that. We'd love to see it return, especially because Owen will need a friend after Teddy's (Kim Raver) departure.

Dealing without Teddy: Speaking of Teddy, we do hope the loss of his best friend will take a toll on Owen. It wouldn't be realistic for him not to miss her.

Chief drama: With so many of the docs injured or leaving, we expect to see Seattle Grace-Mercy West struggle as a hospital, and Owen, as Chief of Surgery, should be deeply involved with that drama.

Miss Grey’s? Us too. Luckily the show will return to Thursdays at 9 p.m. with all-new episodes in the fall on ABC.
