With Grey's Anatomy Season 9 right around the corner, there are a lot of questions up in the air. Will Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) survive, who will leave and what is with all the newcomers? But thanks to a recent interview with Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), we’ve finally got the answer to one of those questions.

Ellen recently spoke to TV Guide about what’s next for our favorite surgeons. And let’s start with the big news: Ellen confirmed that Meredith is staying at Seattle-Grace Mercy West. However, we can’t say the same for Cristina (Sandra Oh).

“We're all in the Boise hospital where we crashed and we stay there a couple days. And then we go back to Seattle. And then Cristina leaves to go to another hospital in the Midwest,” Ellen said about the beginning of the season.

Are you guys as shocked as we are? Cristina and Meredith in separate cities? Say it isn’t so!

Ellen went on to discuss why Cristina decides to say goodbye to the rainy city: “Well, obviously Meredith thinks Cristina is running away and she shouldn't. Life sucks, but you can't run every time something happens. But the reality is 50 million bad things happened there. Meredith's mother died and we all almost got shot. George got run over by a bus. In a way, it's like Cristina's speech in the finale when she spoke about being so sick of watching people die. I am so glad she had that speech because in a way it is kind of absurd all the things they have to write into series television. For that reason, Cristina is outta there.”

We get it. But in times of tragedy, shouldn’t you be near the ones you love? Perhaps Cristina’s departure is what causes the fight between Meredith and her person, or maybe it’s behind Meredith’s new attitude ... or both.

The good news: Cristina is the only departure we can expect.

“Why Meredith wouldn't take a job at Harvard is a bit of a stretch. But for whatever reason she doesn't and convinces everyone [but Cristina] to stay,” Ellen said.

How do you guys feel about yet another departure? And how long do you think it will be until Cristina’s back at Seattle Grace-Mercy Death?

In the meantime, what will we do without the twisted sisters and their witty banter? It just won’t be the same over the phone. *sigh*

How do you think Cristina’s leaving will affect Owen (Kevin McKidd)? Could he be the reason she returns (if she does)?

Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 will premiere on Thursday, September 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
