Grey's Anatomy fans cannot get enough information when it comes to Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and her shocking plot twist. At the end of the Season 9 premiere (Season 9, Episode 1: "Going, Going, Gone") we learned that Callie (Sara Ramirez) had to amputate Arizona’s left leg after the crash.

Our initial reaction involved a lot of gasping and a couple minutes of pure shock-related silence. But now, Jessica has spoken to Entertainment Weekly about her reaction to the news: “[Executive producer Shonda Rhimes] told me she was so excited about this story, and when she told me what it was, I think I felt about it like everyone did last night, which was totally shocked. It was something I’d never even pondered, which is why she’s the master storyteller. It took me a while to wrap my head around.”

We have a feeling it will take us a long while to wrap our heads around it too. But next week, it looks like we get to learn more about the source of Arizona’s feelings toward Callie.

She’s pissed. She’s sad; she’s mad. She’s lost something and she thinks she’s lost something at the hands of the person who’s supposed to be the most important person in her life and take the best care of her,” Jessica said.

So how will Arizona get through it? Well, Jessica doesn’t promise that it will be pretty.

“The beginnings of it and finding this journey is going to be really dark and complicated,” she said.

But we do have good (and interesting) news:  “It can’t go on forever. Callie is her partner, Callie is her support, Callie is her person. Karev is her person. Those people will be absolutely instrumental on every level but there will also be someone who comes in and helps her."

Hold on. Who is this new person who will help Arizona? We have to admit that we kind of wanted it to be Alex (Justin Chambers).

“[This person] will be someone who is not in her immediate circle [but] is a new person to her,” Jessica said.

How do you guys feel about that? Perhaps Arizona can’t really face anyone that knew her when she had both legs, so now she turns to someone new? But what kind of bond can you form with someone so quickly? Apparently, we’re going to find out.

Jessica’s final thoughts on Arizona: “She will rise.”

In more way than one, we hope. And we cannot wait to watch that happen.
