In case you missed it, there is a super trailer for Grey's Anatomy Season 9 that is packed with new footage. We took a closer look at the emotional preview of what’s to come, and here are a few new clues we noticed.
Cristina’s aftershock. We knew from an earlier promo that Cristina (Sandra Oh) would have trouble communicating and handling her emotions after the plane crash. In the trailer, we see that her behavior goes beyond simply throwing a vase with flowers at the wall in her hospital room. Owen (Kevin McKidd) will try comforting her, kissing her forehead as she looks shell-shocked. Even Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) won’t be able to get through to her right away, asking “Do you hear me? Say something, please.” In another scene Meredith and Cristina are outside as Cristina gets in a car. Mer says, “I’m worried that you’re just running away,” and Cristina answers, “Yeah, I am. I’m fleeing.”
Calzona in crisis. As we know from a sneak peek for this week’s episode (Season 9, Episode 2: “Remember the Time,” airing October 4), Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) will make Callie (Sara Ramirez) promise not to let doctors amputate her leg. Of course, we saw in the premiere (Season 9, Episode 1: "Going, Going, Gone") that it gets amputated anyway. In the super trailer, we see Callie and Arizona fully dressed, in the shower. Arizona is crying, “Get off of me!” as Callie holds her up and shouts back, “There’s nowhere else to go!”
Derek figures out a way to move forward. Despite Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) obvious frustration about his hand, and his gloomy career outlook if he can’t perform surgery, a few glimpses from the trailer suggest that Derek becomes (of all people!) the optimist among the group. “We survived,” he tells Meredith, as the two of them rediscover that sex can still be hot even when you’re married and have a kid. Plus, we see Derek carefully looking at the debris from the plane, which has been taken apart and placed in a hangar. Either Derek is trying to figure out why it crashed (conspiracy theories, anyone?) or he’s trying to let go and move on.
Jackson and April discuss … marriage?! It certainly looks that way! In the trailer, Jackson (Jesse Williams) asks April (Sarah Drew), “Do you want to get married?” April appears to answer by making out with him. Would either of these workaholics really consider a grand romantic gesture like this?
Richard gives Bailey advice. He tells Bailey (Chandra Wilson), “Do something. And don’t look back.” We’re guessing that he’s just referring to her upcoming nuptials with Ben, as in, they elope in a shotgun wedding. At least we hope that’s what Richard (James Pickens Jr.) means, as opposed to Bailey leaving Seattle to be closer to Ben.
