We know the writers want Alex (Justin Chambers) to find his person this season, and it seems clear that Jo (Camilla Luddington) was custom designed to fill that role. But does that mean their story is already written in stone?

In a recent interview with TVLine, Grey's showrunner Shonda Rhimes weighed in on whether the writers have made a final decision about a potential Alex/Jo romance.

"I'm hopeful," Shonda said when asked if Jo is Alex's person. "We’ve been watching the chemistry between them and building things."

That said, she doesn't want to "jump into an immediate romance for him. He’s been the guy who sleeps with everybody ... I felt like he needed a friend."

She emphasized again and again that the writers don't want to move things too fast between Alex and Jo, that they want to watch things develop naturally. It sounds to us like they're hopeful about the future of the pair, but are still ready to back out if they decide it's not working.

What do you think: Should Jo be Alex's person, or should the writers cut their losses before it's too late?
