Reformed man whore Alex Karev has been very unlucky in love throughout Grey’s Anatomy’s nine seasons. At times, he was happy, but his relationships with severely damaged women left him with abandonment and trust issues. (Thanks a lot, Izzie and Ava!)
However, this season, Alex has seemed to find the light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, the girl he connected with most, intern Jo, is taken by Jason, a “d-bag” in pink scrubs, and in trying to deal with his feelings, he pushed her away. Well, that is until last night’s episode (Season 9, Episode 22: “Do You Believe in Magic?”), in which he found Jo sitting outside his door with a split lip and a black eye, a victim of domestic abuse.
As next week’s two-part finale kicks off, there’s no doubt that we’ll see Alex help Jo through this painful time in her life and perhaps kick Jason’s ass. That won’t be the only thing that happens with them, though. Hopefully, this will be the time for Alex to reveal his true feelings (he told Cristina he’s in love with Jo recently) and finally get a happy ending.
That is, if Jo feels the same way — and according to her chat with The Hollywood Reporter, it seems that way. No matter how much chemistry they have, one question remains in our minds: Could Jo really be Alex’s “person”?
“I think your "person" would never leave you. I think they couldn't walk away from you because it would be hard to breathe without you,” Jo’s portrayer, Camilla Luddington, told THR. “I don't think they have to be "perfect" by any means, I think they just have to fit for you. If that's Jo for Karev then he needs to tell her.”
Alex is understandably cautious when revealing his feelings, not wanting to be vulnerable, but would Jo really hurt him? Yes, they have their fair share of fights, but they clearly always come back to each other.
“I think there's an element of them both needing to be taken care of,” Camilla dished about the difference between her and Alex’s past loves. “But Jo is fiercely loyal to Alex. Yes, she can have moments when she gets feisty and wants him to ‘never talk to her again,’ but she's finding her footing in how to navigate, for the first time, a really trusting relationship. He may go above and beyond for her, but Jo would also do anything for him. She wouldn't abandon him.”
Here’s to hoping that holds up, because we don’t think Alex could take someone else leaving him. The final note that Camilla left the Alex/Jo ship on makes us nervous, though. Could creator Shonda Rhimes throw us for a loop... again?
“I read the scenes over and over to make sense of them. That just when I thought I knew where things were headed, I was thrown for a loop,” Camilla revealed. “I don't think it'll go exactly the way people expect.”
Color us nervous, Grey’s fans. Do you think Jo is the one for Alex? Tell us your thoughts below.
