One of our favorite things about Grey’s Anatomy is the music. No matter what the situation, Grey’s music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas always manages to pick the best song for the moment — and we love when the show’s soundtrack helps us find new artists to fall in love with!
This season had some really intense, emotional scenes — and some of our favorite music to go along with it. Here are our top five best music moments in Season 9.
Without You by One Two (Episode 1: “Going Going Gone”): We’ll never forget this song that played while Mark died at the end of the Season 9 premiere. This song was perfect for this scene, one of the most emotional and memorable scenes of the entire series.
Knock You Out — Owen Westlake Remix by Tiesto ft. Emily Hanes (Episode 8: “Love Turns You Upside Down”): This song plays when Cristina operates on the newborn who needs a heart transplant. We had never heard of this song or this artist before it's Grey's debut, but this song is one of our favorites from the season. The scene was already heart-stopping, but together with this song, it made the moment even more intense!
Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran (Episode 10: “Things We Said Today”): We love Ed Sheeran, so we were super excited to hear him on Grey’s — especially during such an intense scene. As Bailey has her first dance with her new husband, Ben, Richard tells Meredith Adele has died.
Stay by Rihanna ft. Mikky Ekko (Episode 15: “Hard Bargain”): Before we heard this song every five minutes on Top 40 radio, we heard it on Grey’s Anatomy. This song played during one of our favorite scenes this season: when the doctors resign from the hospital so they can buy it. As much as we wanted Derek, Meredith, Callie, Arizona and Cristina to stay, we knew they had a plan in mind to save Seattle Grace.
Think by Aretha Franklin (Episode 21: “Sleeping Monster”): Bailey explains to the CDC that she knows exactly how long she washes her hands before operating because she always sings this song in her head. Now every time we hear this Aretha Franklin classic in the future, we’ll think of Bailey scrubbing in!
All of Me by John Legend (Season 9 finale, "Perfect Storm"): As if we needed more reasons to cry during the Season 9 finale, but when April barges into Jackson's hospital room to confess her feelings for him, we couldn't help but weep. Not to mention Sarah Drew delivered the most perfect line of the season: “You’re getting married...” Jackson trailed off, to which April responded, “Unless you can give me a reason not to.” Did anyone else just get chills?
