As Grey's Anatomy fans, we think of Twitter as a great way to interact with fans about spoiler theories and casting developments. But showrunner Shonda Rhimes sees no such pleasure in the social media platform.

“It’s sort of an exercise in torture,” Shonda tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I sort of don’t know why I get on there. It’s a little like inviting people who hate you into your house to say mean things to you.”

We suppose that, when you’re someone like Shonda, who is the showrunner on three different TV dramas (Grey’s, Private Practice, and Scandal), and a major player in Hollywood, having your personal life dissected by Twitter followers could potentially be hurtful. Shonda explains that she mostly uses Twitter to speak to the media. “Twitter is most useful for talking to the press because if I tweet something, reporters will pick it up and put it on paper. I don’t have to get on the phone,” she says.

As long as Shonda keeps on tweeting, we’ll remain happy members of the media!
