Now that Private Practice is fully-established and standing on its own two feet, we want to see Grey's Anatomy spawn more new shows. We don't fancy ourselves showrunners of much repute, but we have some ideas for spin-off shows that maybe, possibly, conceivably might be good.
We know that Addison and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) had careers together in New York City, and that they were friends or colleagues with Mark (Eric Dane) and perhaps even Richard (James Pickens Jr.). How cool would it be to have a spin-off explore these characters' younger selves as they try to make it big in the Big Apple? We want to know how the whole sordid Manhattan backstory played out.
This may seem like a cop-out, but why not take the Grey's formula and put it in a new hospital — namely, Mercy West? It would give us a chance to see Reed and Charles again, along with mainstays April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams). And the tension would be even higher, because of the financial troubles we know Mercy West was in before its merge with Seattle Grace.
Over the years, we've gotten to know a few ambulance drivers, and they seem like a zany bunch. There's the sassy one who gave Cristina (Sandra Oh) a piece of her mind, the nice one who was killed in the ambulance crash, and the no-nonsense one who tried to save Alex's (Justin Chambers) and Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) lives this season. We imagine this spin-off would feature fast-paced action with even more life-or-death stakes. At the very least, the changing scenery would be interesting.
The Dermatology Dept.
So what if they only apply lotion for their living? Cristina was amazed when she spent time in the dermatology department. To her astonishment, the doctors there got massages, baked layer cakes, drank water infused with fruit, and complained about getting too much sleep. This kind of serene environment calls for some opera even soapier than that of Grey's.
The Vagina Squad
That's right — we have to honor one of Cristina's best witticisms! And with that, we're out, folks.
