"Alternate reality" sounds like something you'd find on the SyFy channel, not Grey's Anatomy, but Shonda isn't one to be constrained by genre conventions. Last year there was the musical episode, and soon we'll be peering through the looking glass at the Grey's that could have been.

TV Line reports that in February we'll be treated to an alternate reality episode, when Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) imagines what life could have been like if her mother, Ellis, didn't have Alzheimer's.

This explains why Kate Walsh was filming on the Grey's set recently. According to TV Line, in this bizarro Seattle Grace, Addison and Derek are still together. Weird, right?

Addison is apparently the only season regular who's returning (does that mean George still dies in this universe? That's sad), but we will see other familiar faces, including someone who died in the massacre in the Season 6 finale.

This sounds very trippy, and potentially fascinating. We can't wait to hear more.
