On Grey's Anatomy Season 9, Episode 4: "I Saw Her Standing There", MerDer made some major strides in their marriage, agreeing that they don’t need to tiptoe around Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) hand injury, even if it might jeopardize his future as one of the country’s top surgeons. Apparently, it might last forever. E! reports that the storyline involving Derek’s hand and his potential to return to the OR is far from over, and might even end in a full recovery.

“It will take quite a few surgeries and one very ballsy idea to fix what happened to Derek’s hand,” E! reports. “The question is: Will that idea do the trick?”

We’ve already seen Callie (Sara Ramirez), a renowned bone surgeon, come up with an inventive strategy for fixing Derek’s hand. We have yet to see the outcome of her surgery, since Derek has mostly had his hand in a recovery bandage, allowing for movement, but still in the process of healing.

Do you think it’s possible for Derek to go back to being “Mr. Impossible Tumor” again?
