The surgeons (and the fans) of Grey's Anatomy have been experiencing a lot of darkness recently  … and a lot of sex. So it’s about time that we got an “upbeat” episode (with sex, of course), don’t ya think?

Well, according to TV Guide, that’s exactly what Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt) says we’re going to get with Season 9, Episode 4: "I Saw Her Standing There".

“I think the writers felt the audience needed a break, so Episode 4 is really fun. All my other episodes have been quite intense, so it's been really fun to break out of that. I think people will be relieved to take a rest and just get to have fun with the show a little bit after the first few episodes.” That certainly sounds like a breath of fresh air to us.

But what about that moment we can’t stop thinking about in the promo when Cristina (Sandra Oh), you know, has sex with another man?! Surely that can’t be “upbeat” for Owen, can it?

"[Cristina] has a sexual relationship with somebody else in Minnesota," Kevin said. And TV Guide confirms that someone is Dr. Parker (Steven Culp). We have never doubted Cristina’s choice in men … until now. But luckily, it doesn’t look like this one will stick around.

Kevin says that Cristina’s sexcapade is an "empty experience for her. It fulfills a certain need for her, but there's certainly not that same thing that she gets when Cristina and Owen are together.” Could anything ever be?!

Kevin continued: “It's going to be really interesting to see how to get back and whether they're able to. They may still love each other, but there might just be too much hurt going on. There might just be too much baggage to really be able to heal or rebuild. It's a painful truth, but I think Cristina and Owen wish they could be back together, even though they're apart.”

So what’s it going to take for these two to make things work? We’re not sure, but Kevin said that Owen is definitely willing to try. Hey, that’s step one.

“I think he's manning up to what happened. He's holding out for Cristina. Whether that will be reciprocated, he doesn't know. But until he's explored every avenue to see if it's heal-able and fixable, then he's going to hold out for her because she's the love of his life.”

And at the end of the day, we really hope that’s enough. We can’t stand the thought of a world without Owen and Cristina’s longing glances and ridiculously passionate makeouts.
