There are many things that make Grey's Anatomy’s Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) deserving of the McDreamy nickname: his hair, his smile, the way he looks at Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), his playfulness and the fact that he knows when to back off … to name a few.

One example: Derek has always given Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Meredith their time. He’s never asked Mer to choose, because he understands their friendship. Heck, most of the time, he embraces it. Well, so long as Cristina isn’t jogging over and interrupting sex.

But in the upcoming Cristina-Meredith episode (Season 9, Episode 5: “Beautiful Doom,” airing November 8), will we get to see any McDreamy moments, or is it all about the twisted sisters?

We know that the next episode is going to be a tough one for Meredith as she works on a case that is very reminiscent of Lexie’s (Chyler Leigh) death. And you can’t finally have Meredith break down without McDreamy to hold her, can you?

According to TVLine, we can breathe at least a partial sigh of relief. TVLine confirms that Derek will “make an appearance” in the episode, but when, where, and why remain a mystery. So perhaps we won’t get our romantic Mer-Der embrace. We’re really not sure.

But are you guys at least excited to hear that McDreamy’s gorgeous locks won’t be completely absent from the episode? What do you hope to see on the Cristina-Meredith episode?

Catch the next new episode of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, November 8 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
