If the Grey’s Anatomy writers are known for anything, it’s the ability to totally traumatize their fans. Plane crashes, shootings, dramatic break-ups of even the most meant to be couples – nothing’s off limits. Neatly tied loose ends are just not what we’ve come to expect from the mind of creator Shonda Rhimes.

But when a fan recently tweeted Shonda asking why she doesn’t believe in happy endings, she replied, “I do. And when Grey’s Anatomy ENDS, you’ll see one. Until then, a lack of drama is incredibly boring.”

As much as we hate to admit it, Shonda’s got a point. If there was never any conflict, we would never get awesome scenes like the one where Meredith, Derek, Cristina, Callie, and Arizona quit their jobs so they could save the hospital. And despite the fact that Shonda’s usual brand of sob-inducing finales have given us trust issues, maybe this time we should believe her.

Although we hate even thinking about the idea of Grey’s ending – tear – it’s good to know we can expect our favorite doctors to get the happy endings they deserve.
