The synopsis is as follows:
A gas tanker explodes on a Seattle highway, causing multiple injuries — including paramedic Matthew; Meredith and Jo help a frantic mother (Sarah Chalke) whose child is suffering from a mysterious illness; and Owen bonds with a young boy whose parents are in critical condition. Meanwhile true colors are revealed when Alex is forced to work with Jo's boyfriend on an ailing patient.
Let's break this down. First, the gas tanker exploding explains the rumors that this episode would feature an earthquake. Obviously that rumor wasn't right, but it appears that there is a big disaster that forces the docs to deal with multiple patients at once. We just hope Matthew's injuries aren't too severe. As we recently noted, we're not interested in seeing another guest character die.
Meanwhile, we know Sarah Chalke's story hits very close to home for her, so you can expect some major emotions there.
This press release mentioning Owen (Kevin McKidd) seems to confirm he doesn't quit the hospital for good, though he could be out as chief.
And, of course, we suspect the Alex (Justin Chambers) plotline will lead to some sort of development in the Alex/Jo (Camilla Luddington) relationship.
