April Kepner (Sarah Drew) might not be facing the same uncertain fate as other characters on Grey's Anatomy, but that doesn’t mean that she won’t have her share of drama in the upcoming season. Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Sarah Drew at The Entertainment Weekly Pre-Emmys Party over the weekend to talk about April and Sarah’s new role as a mom.

Wetpaint Entertainment: What can we expect from April this season?
Sarah Drew: More of the crazy spaziness that we all love. However it’s really fun, she’s sort of blossoming. Almost a coming of age like beginning to kind of really live in her own skin and figure out what she likes and who she is. She revealed that she has this faith but she was hiding it forever and she’s not hiding it anymore so there’s that. There’s the whole Jackson situation.

I was going there next!
Yes, she’s trying to figure it all out, she’s trying to figure it all out but I think they’re doing it, they’re handling it in a really beautiful, interesting way. There’s like lots of drama and confusion but it’s charming and sweet at the same time so it’s fun, it’s been really fun so far.

What is your favorite TV guilty pleasure?
Watching Vampire Diaries but also True Blood!

Oh speaking of, Alcide Herveaux just walked in!
Yeah it’s stupid; I’m not even looking in that direction. I can’t even handle it because I might pass out.

What is your little boy going to be for Halloween?
I don’t know yet, I have a whole month! We already have seen him as a cowboy, which was really fun. Our welcome back party to Grey’s was a hoedown because that’s how we roll at Grey’s. It was amazing; there was bingo and square dancing. I am not kidding! We had like 90-year-old couples in skirts out to here teach how to square dance. So anyway I told my nanny I’m going to a hoedown and we got to bring Micah for the first hour and a half and she shows up the next day with a handmade cowboy outfit. She literally went to the store, bought material, made a hat, made boots, made a little neck thing! I was like what?? She is ridiculous. He was a freakin’ cute cowboy.

What is your biggest irrational fear as a mother?
Okay when he is really quiet for a really long period of time, I just assume he’s dead. I’m like oh shit my baby is dead, he’s dead, he’s dead in his crib and I don’t know what to do. My husband has to keep me from going in the room to shake him to make sure. He’s like sweetheart he’s alive, I promise you he is alive. But he has not made a sound in an hour!

Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 will premiere on Thursday, September 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
