Next week's episode of Grey's Anatomy is directed by none other than our very own Kevin McKidd (Dr. Hunt), but how did he score the gig and how did he fare behind the scenes?

Pretty well, according to his fellow cast mates. Kevin got the news that he'd be directing a full-length episode after the writers were pleased with the way he directed the series of Grey's webisodes. "I approached [producers] about a year and a half ago to ask if I could shadow directors maybe and start to learn," he dished to MSNBC. That's how he got the webisodes gig, and pretty soon after that wrapped, he got the offer for the episode.

Luckily, Owen has only been written into one short scene of the ep so that he could focus on his directorial duties. "Everyone in the cast, everyone, came up to me and they were just so supportive. Patrick [Dempsey] said to me, 'I've got your back,'" said Kevin of his co-stars. "Everyone knows it's a lot of stress and you've taken on a whole new thing and there are millions of dollars riding on your shoulders and all that stuff — and everybody was amazing and I am very thankful to all of them. They just came to work and just supported me in the most loving way, and I will be eternally grateful to all of them for that, I have to say."

All sounds blissful between the actors on the set of Grey's Anatomy. But how did the episode actually turn out? Kevin admits that his favorite parts are the teaser before the title card and a couple of the closing montages set to music. Says Kevin, "I am just really pleased with how those all came out emotionally and the transitions from scene to scene, how all that edited together in the way that I hoped it would—I'm proud of those moments."

We can't wait to see what our favorite Scottish doc did behind the camera.
