Katherine Heigl came out to the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation’s Compassion Revolution press conference this week in Los Angeles to announce that she would be donating $1 million to spay and neuter programs in the area.

The former Grey’s Anatomy doc and her mom set up the foundation in memory of Heigl’s brother, who died in a car accident at 15. Granted, the cool one mil is chump change for the recently dubbed third top earning female in primetime of the past year, but that’s still a lot of fixed pups.

Says Heigl of the out of control pet population, “What’s happening is not only inhumane and morally reprehensible, it’s economically irresponsible. Killing is not a solution.” Sounds like Heigl has a little of that Izzie fight left in her after all.
