Kevin McKidd Goes On a Fast for Save the Children
Race cars, shmace cars. Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt) is the real Grey's Anatomy badass. Sure, Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd) has philanthropic ventures but fellow cast member Kevin is taking his spokesman position for Save the Children to the next level by participating in a 24-hour fast-a-thon and participating in the grueling Tough Mudder NorCal Challenge to raise money for the organization.
Kevin’s 24-hour fast-a-thon lasted from 9 am Monday morning to 9 am today. The hunky Scottish actor could the only drank water, despite the Grey's Anatomy craft services table (which he tweeted a lusty picture of) looking particularly delicious. Don’t fret fans — he made it through a whole day of filming without eating. Uh, welcome to the model/actress's plight, Kevin.
Going without food for a day must have sparked Kevin’s interest in the social media world as he spent most of Monday tweeting on his somewhat neglected Twitter account about his fast-a-thon with fellow participants and fans and teasing photos of himself with Jessica Capshaw (Arizona Robbins) and Patrick.
The Tough Giving Challenge, as it has been coined, is Kevin's plea to fans to donate to Save the Children, a charity which helps children and families living in East Africa, a region suffering from its worst drought in 60 years. To uphold his end of the bargain, Kevin will run the Tough Mudder, a 10-12 mile military grade endurance-testing obstacle course, designed by the British Special Forces. Um, what?! Sounds pretty torturous to us, but Kevin's only concerns are that it "looks wet and cold," according to his Twitter. Well, we guess the Scottish beefcake doesn't doubt his physical prowess.
The event takes place on September 18, 2011, in Squaw Valley, California, but you can check out how to donate here. Fun fact: If you donate $200-$299, you receive the donor designation of "McBadass" and earn an online chat with Kevin, himself!
Also: It's Kevin's 38th birthday today! Show him a little charitable love and score yourself a screensaver?
