As Shondaland fans probably already know, there have been cast shake-ups on all of Shonda Rhimes' shows. Obviously, there was the exit of Chyler Leigh (Lexie Grey) and Kim Raver (Teddy Altman) from Grey's Anatomy. Then there was the news that Tim Daly will not be returning to Private Practice. Most recently, Henry Ian Cusick has been booted from his role as playboy Stephen Finch on Scandal. What gives?

Shonda Rhimes recently spoke to TV Guide about the Private Practice and Scandal departures.

When it comes to Scandal, Shonda explained that "in the making of the show, there was less for [Henry Ian Cusick] to do than is deserving of him. I felt, why hold him back from doing other things?"

We definitely felt like Stephen was the most underused character in the cast, though, as fans of Henry's from Lost, we're sad that Shonda decided to let him go instead of trying to rework the role a bit to give him a bigger part. Hopefully he finds his way onto our small screens again soon!

When it comes to Tim Daly, Shonda hinted that it was all about money. "There's a lot of budgetary issues on that show," she said. "We need to make sure the show is viable and that we can produce it."

That would explain the rumors that Private Practice was going to be renewed for a 13 episode final season. Although Private Practice has been renewed for 13 episodes that are not necessarily the show's last, it seems like cutting costs — including cast members — is a prudent move.

Miss Grey’s? Us too. Luckily the show will return to Thursdays at 9 p.m. with all-new episodes in the fall on ABC.
