To quote that adorable, drugged out, 6-year-old YouTube phenom returning from the dentist, "Is this real life?" Yes, folks, it is. Callie and Arizona are actually getting married, come whatever horrible medical consequences may fall upon Callie and her baby in the next few episodes.
Shonda Rhimes, Sara Ramirez (Callie), and Jessica Capshaw (Arizona) are all super-excited for a real girl-on-girl wedding — no Post-its, no elopements. Just an honest to goodness wedding ceremony, which, we've caught wind, will be held outdoors, and Bailey (Chanda Wilson) will officiate! Too perfect. Now, we're sure the baby's medical dramz will have to calm down before it happens, but Sara says Calzona couldn't be more committed after the musical ep.
"Because Arizona is the one that saves the baby, I think that legitimizes them more than anything, but who doesn't like a good wedding?" she jokes.
And despite the fact that it may not be entirely legal in the state of Washington for two ladies to get hitched, Jessica reveals that the episode is remarkably not politically charged. It's just a good old-fashioned, lovey dovey Grey's Wedding. "It takes us from soup to nuts," she dishes. "Teddy (Kim Raver) and Arizona have a conversation where she says, 'You're the calmest bride I've ever seen.' It's like, yeah, we go from a makeshift rehearsal dinner to brideapalooza in 42 minutes! There's a lot that happens."
And, since both Callie and Arizona's parents will be showing up for the nuptials, you can be sure to expect some serious family drama from Callie's uber-Catholic clan. Sara says, "When you look at the bigger picture, I know that there are some folks out there who will really appreciate seeing how all of this develops with the wedding, and seeing how one or two particular characters deal with family members who may not really accept what you're choosing."
So let's skip to the question on everyone's mind: Is Callie going to wear a chic pantsuit, or will Arizona take it on since Callie's in a girly phase right now?
