We all see the talent of the Grey's Anatomy stars on a weekly basis, but for many of them, acting is just their day job. What do they do when they're not waddling around in pastel scrubs?
Patrick Dempsey, for example, is rising in the ranks as a race car driver, competing in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Tecate Score Baja 100. He co-owns the IndyCar racing teams Vision Racing and Dempsey Racing. Patrick races as often as he can, and usually not when he's filming due to insurance qualms.
Chandra Wilson has appeared onstage many times. She had roles in the critically-acclaimed musicals Avenue Q and Caroline, or Change, and was a headliner as Matron Mama Morton in Chicago while on hiatus from filming Grey's. She also worked at the investment consultation firm Deutsche Bank Alex Brown, a job which she held even as she started work on Grey's.
Sara Ramirez is no stranger to Broadway either. Her breakout role of Lady of the Lake in the Monty Python musical Spamalot not only earned her a Tony, but it also impressed the ABC execs so much that they offered Sara a part on any ABC show she wanted. Happily, she chose her favorite show, and the rest is television history.
When he's not acting Chiefly on set, James Pickens, Jr. enjoys horseback riding and team roping. Both passions were inspired from his love of TV westerns growing up. He's a member of the United States Team Roping Championship and also competes in the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, which touts itself to be the nation's only touring black rodeo.
And as for Kevin McKidd, Jessica Capshaw, and Justin Chambers? Well, we know that they are expert judges in the annual Grey's/Private Practice cast/crew bake-off. That in itself is an impressive (and enviable) occupation.
