5. Mark’s near-proposal
Mark wants to do what now? Callie and the rest of us were thrown for a loop when he announced his plans to pop the question to Lexie. He’s totally disregarding the fact that they’re not even a couple anymore. (Skipping steps indeed.) But the way he talks about her is hugely romantic, so we were rooting for the guy.
4. The lightning strike
It seems like every season has one mass-casualty incident that sends hordes of victims to the hospital. (Remember all of them? There was the bike race pile-up, the train accident, the ferry crash, etc.) But this one was the freakiest of them all, especially since the bolt struck one person and branched out to all of his teammates.
3. Cristina’s paralysis
Cristina so should not have been cleared for surgery. Perkins knew she wasn’t ready, but Richard overruled him at Owen and Teddy’s suggestion. And then a loud noise during the surgery took her right back to that fateful day, and she was literally floored. Then, even worse, she was paralyzed with terror, and it took her “person” Meredith to help her to her feet.
2. Meredith’s confession
Finally Mer gets the weight of that secret off her shoulders, which is a relief for all of us. No one wanted to see her hanging on to that bombshell any longer. But even more surprising than her big reveal is that Derek wasn’t angry, but actually calm and sympathetic.
1. Cristina leaves her ring
More of a WTF than an OMG. Why was she so ready to divorce Owen? Just because he thought she was ready to scrub in? Because she wanted to be a “simple girl”? Because she thought that was the one thing she could control? In any case, it was the episode’s ultimate shock. Good thing Owen is so devoted and well-spoken.
