Grey's Anatomy is known for its talented guest stars, and it looks like Season 8 will be no exception. Shonda Rhimes recently tweeted: "Had a GA table read today — forgot to take photos with my phone to tweet! But it was great! ALFRE WOODARD is guest starring! So excited!"

No wonder she's excited. Alfre — who our readers my recognize as Layfette's mother on True Blood — is a 17-time Emmy nominee, with four wins to her name. Wow! She's also been nominated for an Oscar and a Grammy, and has appeared on many seminal TV shows over the years, from St. Elsewhere to Desperate Housewives.

According to TV Line, Alfre will play a famous novelists who falls into the hands of Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) during Season 8, Episode 8. Given Alfre's background, we're sure she can handle whatever craziness Shonda throws her way.
