Oww oww!
Apparently, that upcoming blow-up between Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd), which stems from unresolved issues surrounding her abortion, can't be fixed by a steamy vent-blasting scene. The couple will be forced to seek much more extreme measures of relationship-fixing. Translation: shrink.
Yes, Shonda Rhimes confirmed that the couple would be seeking a therapist this season to fix what's broken, but, she dished to TV Line, "It’s not in the way anybody thinks. That’s all I’m going to say about that."
Meanwhile, coasting along in relationship paradise are new parents Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey). Yes, they'll get to keep Baby Zola once and for all, and the honeymoon will last this time, Shonda promised. And how hard could it possibly be to act happy when you have such a cutie pie as a scene partner? "Ellen is amazing with the twins that play baby Zola, and she’s been turning in amazing performances all season," Shonda gushed. "I mean, Ellen has been super-committed this season."
As for our will-they-or-won't-they mainstay, Slexie, Shonda agrees that Mark's (Eric Dane) new biddy is basically a Lexie (Chyler Leigh) clone. "I think we’re already [establishing] that Lexie still has some feelings that she thought maybe she didn’t have, so I’m hopeful that you’re going to see something interesting happen with the two of them," she expounds. Well, DUH.
Then of course, we have poor devastated Teddy (Kim Raver) to deal with. And if you think she's bouncing back from Henry's (Scott Foley) death without letting her crazy flag fly, you're wrong about this ex-military chick. Shonda's word on the matter? "We have a story that we’re going to tell, and...I don’t know if it’s about her getting a romance. It’s about what happens when something like that happens to you, who’s to blame, and how Teddy is going to deal with that." Sounds painful.
Naturally paternal. Loves it.
Avoiding pain and heartache for a while, are Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Ben (Jason George). Let's just say it together: Hooray! Nurse Eli (Daniel Sunjata) was very delicious and we appreciate him breaking through Bailey's sexual repression, but how much do we LOVE Bailey and Ben? So much. And it might have mostly to do with Ben's twinkly eyes and killer smile. Do we have you shivering with delight yet? Thought so.
Bonus scoopage: Derek and Lexie's trip to LA for the Private Practice crossover has more to do with a medical case than a character interaction crossover, Shonda coyly revealed. Plus, we'll see Debbie Allen back on Grey's asJackson's (Jesse Williams) mom later this season.
Sounds like lots of good stuff coming up to reward us for our patient wait during the long winter hiatus. Thanks, Shonda!
