As far as the interns of Grey's Anatomy go, we can sum up our feelings pretty quickly: The first group was awesome (heart surgery in an elevator, anyone?), and the rest kind of sucked … other than Lexie (Chyler Leigh). Well, once she got through her annoying phase.

Regardless, it’s been a long time since we truly cared about a group of interns at Seattle Grace-Mercy West, and thanks to their sluttiness and judgmental ways, we aren’t so sure about the newest batch of them either. Then again, our favorites weren’t exactly open-minded innocents back in the day.

And the fact that this group has its very own Nazi (AKA Medusa) makes them the closest thing to the original we’ve seen so far. So before we judge them, let’s get formally introduced:

Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington): Jo is absolutely terrified of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), likes to cry in hallways, and doesn’t seem too scared of talking about tragedy. Example A: Jo was the one who brought up the plane crash to Owen (Kevin McKidd) in a very, let’s say, abrupt manner. She seems to have an assertive streak. Hey, remember when Lexie was so sweet and innocent? Perhaps Jo will be reminiscent of Lex?

Dr. Heather Brooks (Tina Majorino): If Jo is more uptight and worried what others might think of her (hence the tears in the hallway), it looks as though Heather will be her opposite. The little time we’ve spent with Heather has established her as a very relaxed, go-with-the-flow type of person who enjoys spending her free time in the on-call room with attendings, but who has a shy streak. Talk about reminding us of the first set of interns …

Dr. Shane Ross (Gaius Charles): Shane proves to be the biggest mystery to us right now. We’ve had extremely limited interaction with him, and so far, he seems to be a typical surgical intern: a little judgmental, a little cocky, a little scared, a little charming and not altogether a bad person. Maybe he fits right between Jo’s uptight attitude and Heather’s laid back lifestyle. Based on what we know, we think he could be successful. In Season 9, Episode 2: “Remember the Time”, we caught a glimpse of an interaction between Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Shane that piqued our interest … could McDreamy have found his new student?

Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton). Stephanie so far, seems a bit grumpy and awkward.

Leah (Tessa Ferrer): Leah likes bad boys, which is why she slept with Alex (Justin Chambers) and is now pining after him, much to Jo's annoyance.

So although they are no George (T.R. Knight), Izzie (Katherine Heigl), Alex (Justin Chambers), Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Meredith, the new interns definitely have characteristics that we’ve seen in the past … but in a new way. Could our very favorite interns, now as attendings, help mold these interns into the next group of competitive, successful, hilarious, adulterous human beings? We can only hope.
