Tricks like recreating gory ski injuries and making Sara Gilbert appear terminal are routine for makeup artists Norman Leavitt, Brigitte Bugayong, and Michele Teleis; what really set this episode apart were Owen's fellow officers' IED-inflicted war wounds, as shown through the haunted doc's PTSD flashbacks.
