Bet you didn't know... Jessica is Steven Spielberg's stepdaughter.
Jessica Capshaw was born into the business: she's the daughter of actress and producer Kate Capshaw. Furthering Jessica's connection to Hollywood, her mother married movie giant Steven Spielberg in 1991, when Kate was 15. Kate attended Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, went on to matriculate at Brown University, graduating in 1998 with a degree in English. She studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. Her first major role was in the 2001 horror film Valentine, which also featured future Grey's co-star Katherine Heigl. In 2002, she landed a recurring role in the primetime drama The Practice, acting alongside another future Grey's co-star, Chyler Leigh.
In 2004, Jessica wed environmentalist and entrepreneur Christopher Gavigan. Three years later, Jessica gave birth to their first child, son Luke. Motherhood, along with smaller roles, kept Jessica busy until 2009, when she joined the staff of Seattle Grace as Dr. Arizona Robbins on Grey's Anatomy.
