Vampire Diaries Creator Julie Plec on Evolving to Tell a Grownup Love Story (VIDEO)

One thing is certain about Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries: Julie Plec is super excited about it! Not only are she and the other creative minds behind the hit CW show proud of the risks they took in the Season 5 finale, but she’s excited to let audiences in on a new chapter for Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) and a grownup love story for Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis).

While Julie said she originally planned on killing off Bonnie for good this season, she said Kat eventually convinced her that there was plenty of potential in the character going forward. That led Julie to concoct “a whole new start” for the witchy character and give her another chance. Close call, Kat!

Though Bonnie and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) are trapped somewhere, Alaric is very much alive and well. What’s a newly-revived Original super vamp to do? Look for love, of course!

“Now that the show’s kind of grown up a bit and our characters feel more grown up, it’s much easier than in Season 1, when we first introduced him, to tell a grownup love story,” Julie teased of Alaric’s upcoming romance. “We’re hoping that we pull it off this year.”
