Gwyneth Paltrow's "conscious uncoupling" announcement shocked us all yesterday (March 25), the Oscar-winning actress revealing on her website, goop, that she and husband of 10 years, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, are separating.
As surprised as we are, we're sure we're nowhere near as shocked as the attendees of a March 8 benefit concert at House of Blues Los Angeles. They saw the two former lovebirds sing a romantic duet!
The gala was a benefit for the school the couple's children attend, John Thomas Dye School. (The offspring in question are Apple, 9, and Moses, 7.)
"She called the event chair to say she'd like to sing with Chris," a source tells Us Weekly, saying that Gwyneth chose the song "Cruisin'."
If that ditty sounds familiar, it's the Smokey Robinson number that Gwyneth sang with Huey Lewis in the 2000 film Duets — which her late father, Bruce Paltrow, directed.
But now, two-and-a-half weeks after Chris and Gwyneth's own duet, the whole world knows of the distance that had developed between the two talents.
"We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate," Gwyneth wrote in the goop statement.
Now we're sad all over again, but we're hoping they're cruising away on good terms!
