Halle Berry Says Daughter Is Scared Paparazzi Will Kill Them

Halle Berry has made it known before that she’s a mama bear when it comes to photographers getting too close to her daughter, Nahla. And now, Berry is trying to ensure that paparazzi will never put her child in a dangerous situation ever again.

Berry testified before California’s Assembly Committee on Public Safety on Tuesday in favor of a new anti-harassment bill by Sen. Kevin de Leon. According to the New York Daily News, the bill would put restrictions on paparazzo photographing the kids of celebrities and others in the public eye.

“My daughter doesn’t want to go to school because she knows ‘the men’ are watching for her,” the pregnant Oscar winner testified. “They jump out of the bushes and from behind cars and who knows where else, besieging these children just to get a photo.”

“If it passes,” she said, “the quality of my life and my children’s lives will be dramatically changed.”

The 46-year-old star then told the legislators about the widely publicized incident that happened in April when she was returning from Hawaii with her fiance, Olivier Martinez, and Nahla. As the family arrived at LAX, they were surrounded by 50 photographers, and Nahla was very frightened by the commotion.

“They were trying to start a fight with my fiance because if they get a photo of that it’s more money,” she recalls. “She asked ‘Mommy, are they going to kill us?’ She didn’t get to sleep until 3 a.m. because she can’t get this out of her mind and she doesn’t understand what just happened to her.”

Following the testimony on Tuesday, the bill will now be reviewed by the Assembly Judiciary Committee.
