Hanna Smacks Jenna! Pretty Little Liars: Season 1, Episode 20
Talk about a crazy episode! This week (March 7, 2011) on Pretty Little Liars, Paige (Lindsey Shaw) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) hook up (again!), while Hanna (Ashley Benson) finally gets fed up with Jenna (Tammin Sursok) and slaps her so hard that her glasses fly off. Usually, we’re all for nonviolent confrontation, but let’s face it — Jenna totally deserved it! You go, Hanna.
At the start of the episode, entitled “Someone to Watch Over Me," Spencer (Troian Bellisario) is in hot water (to put it politely), as the police have used a search warrant to rifle through her room. Plus, the other girls might have their rooms inspected, too. Not cool!
Aria’s parents inform her that they’re reconciling, until Aria (Lucy Hale) sends her mom (Holly Marie Combs) a steamy text — intended for Ezra (Ian Harding), obvi! When Aria’s dad (Chad Lowe) hears about this, he freaks and starts inspecting Aria's room, getting thisclose to finding the book that Ezra inscribed for Aria. Needless to say, Aria’s parents start bickering. (And people say that technology makes life easier!)
Things are going great for Hanna and Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) — that is, until she goes snooping in his bag and finds an owl pendant, which is actually intended for Jenna. Spencer does some spying and sees Jenna using the owl as a flash drive. But what could be on it?
Hanna refuses to believe the girls’ claims that Caleb is up to no good. But then she randomly decides to try the numbers “2-1-4” as Caleb’s locker combo, and voila! So that’s what that code was for. Hanna confronts Caleb, who admits to getting paid by Jenna to get info about Hanna. However, he says he backed out of his deal with Jenna once he developed feelings for Hanna. Too little, too late, if you ask us!
Not seeming too crestfallen by Emily ending things with her last week, Paige is seen flirting with Hanna’s ex Sean (Chuck Hittinger), and Sean even asks Em to put in a good word for him with Paige, not knowing Emily and Paige’s history. Sean then takes Paige out on a date, but it clearly isn’t magical, as Paige calls Emily that night, and they engage in a serious make-out sesh!
Things with Caleb and Hanna might not be going so hot — he moves out of her place, and then she goes and slaps Jenna for good measure — but Toby (Keegan Allen) and Spencer’s relationship continues to heat up. Toby warns her about undercover cops parked near her place, and then they snuggle by the fireplace as he tells her that she should never consider running away again, which she says she tried when she was seven.
Funny that Toby should mention running away. Ian (Ryan Merriman) is waiting for Spencer, and when she gets home from a jog, he tries to make skipping town sound like her only option, now that the police are suspicious of her. What a stand-up guy!
We get to the end of the episode, and Aria’s parents are back to their unhappy ways, which Mike (Cody Christian) blames Aria for. And Spencer’s mom informs her that her room’s search warrant might get tossed out, which is important, since the cops found threads in a bracelet that match the bloody sweater found in Toby’s room. In other words, Spencer is seeming quite guilty — as if someone had planted that evidence! Gulp.
So with Hanna and Caleb’s breakup, plus Spencer’s legal trouble, it was quite the episode. In fact, we wish every episode could involve Jenna getting slapped!
