California Teen Hannah Anderson Rescued in Idaho; Alleged Kidnapper Killed

The search is finally over and California teen Hannah Anderson is safe. Following a huge manhunt, the 16-year-old and her alleged abductor James DiMaggio were found in a remote area near Morehead Lake, Idaho. According to authorities, DiMaggio was shot and killed by an FBI tactical agent at about 5:20 p.m. PT and Anderson was found nearby.

DiMaggio, who was a close friend of the family and was reported to have admitted to having a “crush” on Hannah, is accused of killing Hannah’s mother, Christina, and her 8-year-old brother, Ethan, who were both found in the charred remains of DiMaggio’s home in Boulevard, California. Hannah's last known whereabouts had been at her August 3 cheerleading practice.

A regional Amber Alert was issued on August 6 and the search for Hannah and her alleged abductor brought on a manhunt that stretched from California to Idaho, where DiMaggio’s blue Nissan Versa was found in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness area with no license plates.

A horseback rider who spoke to Anderson and DiMaggio before later realizing that they were the subjects of the Amber Alert also tipped off the authorities to their location.

"It's now healing time," Hannah's father, Brett Anderson, told CNN following her rescue.

A sheriff's spokeswoman said Hannah did not seem to have physical injuries, however she was airlifted to an Idaho hospital. On Sunday morning, her father will reportedly join her in Idaho.

Of course, the reunion will be bittersweet for Hannah and her father, who have had two members of their family brutally taken from them.

Hannah’s father Brett wrote in a text to CNN, "I am nervous excited saddened 4 my wife and son and worried what my daughter has been through.”
