Happy Fifth Anniversary, Glee! Stars Celebrate Five Years With Show

Ready to feel old? Glee’s stars are celebrating their five-year anniversary of working on the show. That’s right: Their fifth anniversary. Whoa. Suddenly, we feel like it’s time to sign up for the AARP.

Kevin McHale (Artie) kicked off the celebration, tweeting to fellow OG co-stars Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) and Chris Colfer (Kurt) about the milestone. On September 11, Kevin tweeted:

Too cute! But why is it the fifth anniversary, considering the show hasn’t even started airing Season 5 yet? Well, the pilot aired in May 2009, prior to the show’s official start in September, meaning that the show would have started casting and shooting the episode long before that. So Kevin is apparently referring to his first day on the set.

And what kind of gift do you give someone for their fifth glee-versary? Wood is the traditional gift for a fifth wedding anniversary, so maybe we should send them each a new piano. We just have to make sure Sue doesn’t smash them like she did in the Season 3 premiere.

And Jenna got into the spirit as well, responding with:

Feel the love! And while we’re happy for the three of them, it’s interesting to note that other original cast members, notably Lea Michele (Rachel), aren’t included in their anniversary wishes. But we're willing to bet that Lea’s first day of shooting came before the rest of the cast’s, since Rachel had such a major role in the pilot.

It’s crazy to think back to the Glee premiere five years ago, when so many naysayers seemed convinced that a show featuring high school outcasts singing and dancing couldn’t catch on. We’re sure glad Glee proved everyone wrong!

Now, the question is: Just how many more anniversaries might the show’s cast celebrate? We know that the show is guaranteed to have at least one more season after this one, and it’s safe to assume that Chris, Jenna, and Kevin would still be on the cast at that time. So happy anniversary to those three, and here’s to many more!
