HBO Greenlights Star-Studded The Leftovers: Who’s On Board?
HBO has been pretty much killing it when it comes to premium cable shows, and so we’re stoked to hear that The Leftovers is the newest concept to get a series order, Deadline reports.
Although we don’t know a ton about the new show, we do know that the faces already cast are some of the most familiar around. In fact, Jen Aniston’s love Justin Theroux and Liv Tyler are among the bigger names onboard, with the show pilot directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights). The main center of the series is Justin Theroux’s character, Mapleton chief of police Kevin Garvey.
Based on the 2011 novel, the show will be co-written by original author Tom Perrotta (Election) and Damon Lindelof (Lost). The concept is based on the days after the Rapture, with the people who didn’t make the cut (the titular “leftovers”) existing in a “world that will never be the same.”
Also starring in the show are Chris Zylka (Twisted; Secret Circle), Max and Charlie Carver (Teen Wolf), Christopher Eccleston (Heroes), Carrie Coon (Gone Girl), Amy Brenneman (Private Practice), and several more you’ll definitely recognize. Lucy Hale’s ex-boyfriend Chris will play Tom, a “college dropout who has taken refuge with a mysterious guru.”
We can’t wait to find out more about The Leftovers, including its premiere date. The absurd circumstance-normal character blend that the book brought to life so well will certainly translate into an interesting visual concept. It has been picked up for 10 episodes.
