HBO Renews Hit Fantasy Drama Game of Thrones For Fifth and Sixth Seasons (VIDEO)

Did you miss the raven yesterday? Here's an update: Game of Thrones has been renewed for not just one but two more seasons. That means you can count on seeing both Season 5 and Season 6 in the coming years.

Of course, this shouldn't be a shock to anyone. After all, the Season 4 premiere (Season 4 Episode 1, "Two Swords") pulled in a record number of viewers for the show, and was HBO's most watched episode since the Sopranos finale in 2007. With numbers like that, we'd be shocked if HBO weren't putting it's faith in the epic fantasy, which just gets bigger, bloodier, and more addicting every season.

To make unsurprising news even more unsurprising, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss were officially signed on to the show through Season 6 just a few weeks ago. Clearly, the HBO powers that be are eager to see the series stick around.

So, how long will it last? While there are still two books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series that have yet to be published, David Benioff and Dan Weiss have said they've always envisioned the show lasting seven seasons. As Benioff explained, "Seven gods, seven kingdoms, seven seasons. It feels right to us."

Of course, many fans worry A Song of Ice and Fire writer George R.R. Martin won't be able to finish the season in that timeframe, and even George himself admits it's "alarming" how quickly the show is catching up with the books — but that's a problem for another day!
