HBO Renews VICE for Season 2

HBO clearly has no problem descending into a life of VICE — the premium cable network has renewed the news magazine series for a second season of 12-episodes.

The freshman series debuted on April 5 and has since profiled domestic and international issues like assassinations in the Philippines, child suicide bombers in Afghanistan, North Korean defectors, toxic waste in Iraq, fat farms in Mauritania, ghost cities in China, and Chicago's South Side gangs — often traipsing into dangerous territories with cameras rolling.

The show is also an offshoot of the Vice magazine — which has covered news, arts, and culture since 1994.

"I honestly don’t think there is another network in the world that would have given us the opportunity and support that HBO did over the last year," creator Shane Smith says in HBO's press release. "We learned a lot over the course of shooting Season 1 and are insanely excited over our story selection for Season 2. Now that our various parasites, hernias and virulent rashes have been treated, we are ready in mind and in body to go out there and get the gold."
