Sad news, Lizzie McGuire fans. Former Disney star Hilary Duff and her husband, retired hockey player Mike Comrie, have separated after more than three years of marriage.

The couple, who wed in August 2010, “have mutually decided to an amicable separation,” according to Hilary’s rep. A source close to the couple indicates that “there was no major incident” that caused the split. “They really did drift apart.”

After putting a great deal of work into their relationship, including couples counseling, the two young parents decided “at this time, they work better as friends,” the insider reveals. “And they really are great friends.”

In fact, they’re getting along so well despite their new family dynamic, that they are “still going to go to the park together” with their 21-month-old son Luca Cruz.

Shortly after the official announcement was released, Hilary took to Twitter to thank her fans for their immediate outpouring of support. “Mike and I are sitting here, we are so appreciative for all of your kindness & well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting thru it together.”

Though we’re relieved to hear that things remain so chummy between these two, we can’t help but feel sad. Hilary and Mike recently spent New Year’s Eve together and looked happy as ever. We’re gonna hang onto hope they can work it out.

But if not, at least it sounds like baby Luca has two loving parents who are committed to raising him in a happy environment.
