X Factor Hits All-Time Series Ratings Low in Season 3 Week 2

It’s nothing new for us to talk about how much we love The X Factor in the same breath we lament its ratings. But though we were already worried about the show when it kicked off Season 3 with fewer viewers than those watching a rerun of another TV show, we’re heading rapidly toward the panic zone now.

TV by the Numbers has the ratings game on lock, and looking at the Thursday, September 19, episode of The X Factor 2013, it may be time for the Fox show to step up something. During last night’s Week 2, Day 2 episode, XF grabbed only a 1.9 ratings share in its 8 p.m. hour. Meaning, for the second week in a row, a rerun of The Big Bang Theory beat it out — by 2.77 million viewers.

While The X Factor had 6.07 million viewers watching Ashly Williams honor her departed mother, and witnessing our future best friend Ellona Santiago give a little Little Mix twist, TBBT had 8.84 million fans tune in.

What does this mean for The X Factor? We’re not sure, exactly, but let’s consider that the U.K. version of the show grabbed 9.1 million viewers during its time slot. The British version consistently boasts top ratings, which may contribute to its stars’ post-show success. One Direction, Little Mix, and Leona Lewis have all come out of the show and found great success, whereas X Factor USA has yet to break out a huge star.

Last year’s finalists — Emblem3, Fifth Harmony, Tate Stevens, and Carly Rose Sonenclar — are all very talented singers, but none of them have become the household names their across the pond counterparts are. Could it be that The X Factor USA just doesn’t appeal to fans here, or is something else missing? We love the show and would hate to see it go, but we have to wonder what it is that’s keeping people from tuning in.
