Hoda Kotb Making $18M Less Than Matt Lauer as ‘Today’ Co-Anchor
Hoda Kotb is taking over Matt Lauer’s job on Today, but she’s getting paid a heck of a lot less!
The TV host was named the new co-anchor of the NBC show on Monday, January 1, which made history as the show now has two women as the head co-anchors.
Though the move was monumental, Hoda is getting paid $7M.
Matt, on the other hand, was making a whopping $25M a year before he was fired in November for inappropriate sexual behavior.
However, the 53-year-old is making the same amount as her co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie.
Despite getting paid less than the 60-year-old, the mother of one doesn’t seem to be bothered by it.
“Hoda isn’t complaining about the money. She has landed the big job she always dreamed of, and most definitely deserves,” a source told Fox News.
“Plus, Matt’s salary reflected the long time he was on the show — 25 years. If things go well, Hoda could ask for more next time if she re-ups her contract.”
The source continued, “But the figures underline the huge wage disparity at NBC News.”
Savannah made the official announcement live on air on Tuesday, January 2.
“Today it’s 2018 and we are kicking off the year right because Hoda is the new co-anchor of Today,” the 46-year-old said.
“Let’s give her a round of applause. This has to be the most popular decision NBC News has ever made and I’m so thrilled.”
Needless to say, Hoda was overjoyed to be joining the mother of two at the news desk.
“I think we should send some medics to my mom. She has likely fainted,” Hoda joked.
